I wanted to pitch an idea to Mr. Vanover. I’m going to try and describe it as concisely as possible with hopefully enough background to be comprehensible,

So, in cryptocurrency, people are transmitting funds to each other using “wallets”. A wallet ultimately boils down to a hundreds of digits long secret number that the wallet can prove it has without revealing the number. It is a type of authentication said to use “self-soverign” because instead of Google or some other provider verifying you control an account, you do it yourself.

Ok, so, accounts are just numbers. For example, Ethereum addresses are 42-characters long hexadecimal strings. 0xEb4E3e9fA819E69e5Df4ea35b9C7973062C96de9 is one of mine. Obviously, it is infeasible to communicate that quickly to another without the aid of a computer.

For sharing addresses, a service called the Ethereum name service was developed which translates human-readable names into numeric addresses, much like the Domain Name Service (DNS) translates domain names like zanevanoverformayor.com into the numeric IP addresses computers actually use to route data.

What I am proposing is adding a desk to the DMV where a citizen can come and, after proving their identity to the satisfaction of law enforcement, cryptographically prove ownership of a wallet.

The county would then create an ENS name
